A magnitude 6.6 Earthquake occurred on Saturday, October 23, 2004 near the west coast of Honshu, Japan. USGS reports extensive damage in Niigata Prefecture. A high speed train was derailed, and several roads, bridges and rail lines were also damaged, along with gas, water and power lines.
